Oxon Bird Pics Autumn 2009

   Grey Phalarope, Radley GP

21 November 2009

A distant bird - unlike Farmoor where you can almost touch them! Here there was a impenetrable fence surrounding this lagoon, making a close approach impossible. Most of the time this bird was right over the far side, but just once it made a brief foray towards the nearer edge.

This bird was quite mobile, taking flight frequently.

   Rose Coloured Starling, Forest Hill

8 November 2009

Not the best of light or camera angle, but this is a first for Oxfordshire in modern times and a lifer for me!

7 November 2009

A lucky roadside encounter with this very pale individual - preparing for lift off!

  Grey Heron Grey Heron, Otmoor

29 October 2009

The highlight of a very quiet visit to Otmoor! This was briefly on some of the nearer mud from the first screen - usually everything is at the back, out of good DSLR range (even for herons).

This long staying juvenile was too close most of the time and reluctant to take to the wing.

   Dunlin, Farmoor

12 September 2009

This presumed moulting adult was the Little Stint's companion on the causeway.

  Little Stint Little Stint, Farmoor

12 September 2009

Somewhat more wary than other Little Stints I've come across previously, but it eventually allowed a close approach at the far end of the causeway. This bird did have two legs, it just wasn't using them both here!

A shot showing how flexible the bill is.

   Redshank, Farmoor

12 September 2009

One of two surprisingly confiding birds on the causeway.

  Kingfisher Kingfisher, Otmoor

12 September 2009

I have been after a reasonable Kingfisher pic for some time now. I think this at last qualifies. Some reward for a longish wait.
