A belated posting of a distant pic of a splendid bird from last spring.

Another shot of this splendid male - see above.

  Barn Owl, Burnham, Norfolk

27 March 2012

The end of a productive day with a delightful Barn Owl hunting by the road at this apparently well known site. It never came really close though.

Note the tiny crab or similar in its bill!

One of the closest shots I managed to get on this trip. Welney and Cley had plenty, but they were more distant.

This bird appears to be coming into full summer plumage which would have made for an even more attractive subject.

From the Island Hide. My first nearly close up photo of a harrier, after a fair amount of trying!

 Teal Teal, Cley NWT, Norfolk

26 March 2012

Comments as below - it is very difficult to get good shots of this normally very wary duck away from reserve hides. Here they seemed completely oblivious to activity in the hide - only metres away.

 Shelduck Shelduck, Cley NWT, Norfolk

26 March 2012

Brilliant light for our visit to Cley, where the hides are actually reasonably situated for photography, i.e. not too high up, and close to (some of) the birds - it is a pity there aren't more such places in the UK!

  Shorelark, Holkham, Norfolk

25 March 2012

One of two quite wary and mobile birds. This is a heavy crop that has survived the enlargement reasonably OK.

  Chiffchaff, Welney WWT, Norfolk

24 March 2012

A lucky encounter on the path between the hides. The lack of leaves helped with this one.
