Red flanked Bluetail, Sandy Point, Hampshire 23 October 2010 Quite a wait for this beauty, but well worth it! After about 3hrs, it briefly came close enough for this shot, which is reasonably sharp considering it was taken at 1/80sec. Click pic to enlarge |

Black-tailed Godwit, Titchfield Haven, Hampshire 20 October 2010 From the raised viewpoint of the Meon Shore hide. Less mud on it than most! Tactic for these birds is to just wait for one to come close enough. Eventually they usually do. |

Green Heron, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall 9 October 2010 To our dismay, this bird hadn't shown since first light when we arrived at opening time (10 am). However after about an hour it was relocated from the 'Jungle' boardwalk, which quickly got very crowded and cramped. This shot was taken before the worst of the crush developed! Poor light was also a big issue and this photo needed 1/50sec at ISO 800 (f5.6). Click pic to enlarge -it does look better at higher res! This photo is the BirdGuides POTW for 14 Oct 2010!

Snow Bunting, Newlyn, Cornwall 7 October 2010 Another splendidly obliging bird along the side of a cycle track by the sea wall! After some time waiting, this bird suddenly hopped up onto the sea wall, giving this opportunity for a sky background - so much more striking than pebbles! Click pic to enlarge |

Snow Bunting, Newlyn, Cornwall 7 October 2010 This actually looks like a different bird - the bill is damaged! But I had no idea at the time there was more than one present. Click pic to enlarge |

Little Stint, Marazion beach, Cornwall 5 October 2010 One of a delightfully confiding couple of juveniles on the beach. Makes a welcome change in backdrop to the Farmoor causeway! Click pic to enlarge |

Little Stints, Marazion beach, Cornwall 5 October 2010 Both together. |

Pale Bellied Brent Goose, Marazion beach, Cornwall 5 October 2010 Three of the five showing off their pale bellies well. |

Pale Bellied Brent Goose, Marazion beach, Cornwall 5 October 2010 Close to the beach at full tide. Most of the Brent Geese I see are Dark Bellied, which made this group of five interesting. |

Water Rail, Titchfield Haven, Hampshire 25 September 2010 Ran across in front of the Meon Shore hide, to the delight of several long lens owners... Click pic to enlarge This is a Birdguides 'Notable Photo'! |
|
Isabelline Shrike, Gosport, Hampshire 11 September 2010 A distant record shot of this uncooperative rarity! It refused to perch on top of bushes out in the open like "proper" shrikes, instead preferring to skulk around in the undergrowth. This was by far the best view obtained, in the early evening sunlight. Quite a collection of assembled long lenses, many with frustrated owners! |
