30 November 2009

A once in a lifetime opportunity to get close to an adult Pom - not to be missed!

This bird was feeding on a sheep carcass and was very approachable.

Bearded Tit Bearded Tit, Farlington Marshes, Hants

24 October 2009

Several showing well from the bank by the lagoon on the west side of the reserve, between about 09:45 and 11:00 only. Difficult to get good pics though due to all the reeds in the way!

Thanks to Pete Styles for his tips on this photo opportunity.

24 October 2009

See above. This was a female/immature, "down sun", not into the sun as the male above was.

24 October 2009

See above. A more distant male, actually above the reeds for a few moments!

  BROWN SHRIKE, Staines Moor, Surrey

17 October 2009

Couldn't resist the temptation to go back for another attempt...

As suggested below, reverting to digiscoping (Nikon CP4500 with Swarovski AT 80HD) does give improved results!

It also helped that the light was a little better today, and the bird was briefly somewhat closer, as in this shot.

17 October 2009

A more distant shot but showing the primary feather pattern and tail.

14 October 2009

Went to twitch this mega rarity in the afternoon, as it was only about an hours drive away. Unfortunately the bird was very distant, and the light poor, so these ultimate in "record" shots were the best I could do.

EOS 50D, EF400f4 DO & x1.4TC

Reverting to digiscoping would almost certainly have given better results!

Pink footed Goose Pink footed Goose, Lock of Strathbeg, Aberdeenshire

24 September 2009

  Curlew, Ythan Estuary, Aberdeenshire

24 September 2009

From one of the convenient lay-bys overlooking the estuary, but a bit distant.

Red Grouse, Forest of Bowland, Lancs

3 September 2009

A fortunate flight shot of the bird below a few seconds later. Note the water droplets falling off the bird!

3 September 2009

Poor conditions for this somewhat distant shot - very windy, poor light, but in a dry period between heavy showers.

This, and the one above, were ISO 800 shots with the 50D, and the noise didn't appear too bad!

  Raven, Crummack Dale, Yorkshire

31 August 2009

Surprisingly with a ring...
