UK Bird Pics Autumn/Winter 2005/2006

Laughing
Gull, Reading, Berks
18 March
2006
I was
remarkably lucky with this bird. It appeared for the
first time today, just a few minutes after I arrived.

female
Brambling, Lavell's Lake, Berks
18 March
2006
Below the
feeders at the Tern hide. Unfortunately, I didn't manage
any acceptable shots of the males, which were begining to
assume summer plumage.

Smew,
Cotswold Water Park, Gloucestershire
4 March
2006
Smew seem
to be very wary, and getting close without a hide is very
difficult. This was the best long range effort I could
manage.

Hoopoe,
Gosport, Hampshire
14 January
2006
A good
efficient twitch! But the light was very poor for this
remarkably obliging bird, so good shots were pretty
difficult with digiscoping gear. This is my 299'th
UK species!

Oystercatcher,
Girdleness, Aberdeenshire
5 October
2005
I was
hoping for Purple Sandpiper pics, but they were out of
range during this brief end of afternoon visit, after a
business meeting.

Snipe,
Slimbridge WWT, Gloucs
24
September 2005
The South
Lake had a good collection of waders, but only this Snipe
was in reasonable range of the hide.

Little Crake, Slimbridge WWT, Gloucs
24
September 2005
Slimbridge
is within my twitching range! This was not an easy bird
to digiscope on a shortish weekend visit, though. It kept
moving nearly the whole time, and a full Zeiss hide is
not conducive to the stability needed for digiscoping!
For this
pic, the scope was too low and so only half the lens was
above the bottom of the hide window. Nevertheless, with
PhotoShop it is amazing how well the washed out original
can be improved.

More pics of the Little
Crake. Not good enough quality to show any larger. |
