Black-necked Grebe

Woolhampton GP,Berks, UK. 6 April 2013
EOS 7D & 400mmf4DO & x1.4TC. 1/3200 sec f5.6 ISO 800

Summer plumage Black-necked Grebes are splendid birds and I had been hoping to connect with one for some time. Two years previously this site had hosted 3 birds, but by the time I arrived only one bird was left and it was well short of full breeding plumage. So when a couple more were reported, and appeared to be staying, I jumped at the opportunity for another attempt. Fortunately the weather was kind that day with a fair amount of sun, and one bird was obligingly coming quite close along the southern shore of the main lake. It was also tame and didn't appear bothered by my presence, which allowed this photograph to be taken without too much difficulty.
