Oxon Bird Pics Spring/Summer 2012

 Peregrine Falcon

Peregrine Falcon, Port Meadow

11 August 2012

This bird caused a considerable commotion on the meadow when it appeared suddenly this morning. It made several passes before flying off without appearing to have caught anything. The orange colour ring has 'LB' on it.

Many thanks to Mike Wallen from Bucks who told me that "LB" is one of two chicks that fledged from the County Hall building in Aylesbury this July!!

Another slightly sharper pic, but the eye direction is poorer.

Little Egret, Port Meadow

11 August 2012

Unusual vertical posture with erect "crest".

Wood Sandpiper, Port Meadow

28 July 2012

Eventually this bird came within range, but the sun wasn't out at the time, and it didn't get quite close enough. However, on the positive side the reflection is a bonus and the bird is well out in the open.

 Damp Woodpigeon Woodpigeon, Wantage

12 July 2012

About sums up this "summer"!

 Turtle Dove Turtle Dove, Buscot

30 June 2012

Another visit in better conditions - a brief spell of blue sky behind the bird!

 Turtle Dove Turtle Dove, Buscot

23 June 2012

A strange bird that happily sits out on aerials purring away for lengthy periods of time - almost like a Collared Dove. This must be the same bird as last year, which behaved in an identical manner.

  Swift, Farmoor

9 June 2012

One of many "buzzing"the causeway in the strong wind today. It appears to have something, perhaps a parasite, just in front of its eye.

Swift, Farmoor

9 June 2012

Another one without an eye problem.

  Snipe, Otmoor

2 June 2012

Poor conditions and light for photography this morning and these drumming Snipe were a real challenge. Probably the least bad of several hundred shots I took!

There were up to 4 birds in the air at once about midway along the track to the first screen, but they had largely stopped shortly after 9am.

Dunlin Dunlin, Farmoor

19 May 2012

This bird was on the boat launch ramp, meaning I could avoid the sloping concrete wave wall which is so often present on Farmoor pics.
