Migrant Hawker, Torrent
de Pareis, Majorca 28
October 2005
While having a picnic
lunch in this spectacular spot, this dragonfly suddenly
landed on my grey tee shirt, in a dozy condition! It
stayed put, as it was cool (probably thought I was a rock!),
and then allowed itself to be positioned on nearby rushes.
Very convenient for macro photography (note quality
comparison with digiscope shot below)

of the spectacular surroundings in the right hand pic.

Migrant Hawker,
Farlington Marshes, Hants 16 August 2005
A digiscope shot at some
distance, in less than easy conditions, but reasonably
sharp nonetheless. Suffers in comparison with the 4 pics
above, though!

Emperor Dragonfly,
Harwell International Business Centre, Oxon 21 July 2005
The larger dragonflies
are almost my 'holy grail' at present - very difficult to
get pics of, as they are never still. An exception was
this female ovipositing which required a digiscope shot.

Red Eyed Damselfly,
Harwell International Business Centre, Oxon 18 July 2005
Cloudy, almost cool
conditions for a change!
Thanks to Peter Pool for
pointing out that this was not Blue-tailed...

 |
Red Eyed Damselfly,
Harwell International Business Centre, Oxon 14 July 2005
Getting close to these
is usually impossible - they like the vegetation out in
the water. So this is a digiscope shot!

Black Tailed Skimmer,
Harwell International Business Centre, Oxon 14 July 2005
Normally I find this
species very wary, but this one allowed a close approach
in the hot conditions.

Southern Damselfly,
Central Oxon 9
July 2005
A successful damselfly
twitch for this one!
|
 |
White-legged Damselfly,
Goring, Oxon 18
June 2005
A hot day for a change!
No sign of Club-tailed Dragonfly here for the second year
running, but this was some compensation.

Broad Bodied Chaser,
Greenham Common, Berks 12 June 2005
This is a digiscope shot
- these were too wary to allow close enough approach for
the usual 'macro' dragonfly shots. This was a
surprisingly good site, with also Small Red Damselfly and
Emperor.

Large Red Damselfly,
Otmoor, Oxon 7 May
2005
Pretty well the only
compensation from a distinctly unmemorable visit to
Otmoor in cool, windy conditions. No idea why this
decided to put in an early appearance!
