Oxon Bird Pics: Spring/Summer 2020

Rose-coloured Starling, East Challow

Good to get an Oxon photo for the first time in two months!
After the remarkably lucky events of yesterday evening, I went
back this morning and this elusive bird was briefly present on a
roof top shortly after I arrived (this photo was taken at 07:20).
Thereafter there were no further views by about 08:20 when
I had to depart. Only some more distant and very brief, unsatisfactory
views on my evening visit.

Sanderling, Farmoor

On seeing the news that there was another Sanderling at Farmoor
this morning, in summer plumage, I decided to go back for a later
than usual visit - towards the end of the afternoon.
This
bird was feeding in close proximity to a Dunlin and getting
un-obscured photos wasn't easy. Also the sun kept going behind
clouds, but this was the one 'keeper' from the hundreds I took!
A really smart bird in summer plumage, which I've only rarely
if ever seen before.

Sanderling, Farmoor

I was hoping that some of the lovely full summer plumage birds,
seen earlier this week, would still be around. Unfortunately they
had moved on, leaving only two much greyer birds. At least this
one is just beginning to show some summer feathers.
A backlit
photo from above was all I could manage in this brief encounter. These
were wary birds.

Red Kite, West Hagbourne

Red Kites are so common these days, I generally rarely pay much
attention to them. But a flock of 50+ feeding in a freshly
ploughed field close to the road got me so interested I raced home
to get my photographic equipment before returning as quickly
as possible!
