Greenshank, Standlake Pit 60,

August 2015
Nicely walking up and down in front of the
hide! This photo benefitted from a hint of sun and water in the
background. Remarkably obliging for such a normally wary species.

Common Sandpiper, Standlake Pit 60,

August 2015
These are normally pretty wary but this one
seemed quite happy with the hide. Only my second Common Sand pic! |

Red backed Shrike, Churn
26 July
2015
Pretty miserable conditions today for my first RB
Shrike for the county, with rain and wind!
This bird only
showed briefly and rather distantly from near the old Field Study
Centre and then disappeared. |
 |
Lapwing, Standlake Pit 60
18 July 2015
Another crop of pics from the Langley
Lane hide. This Lapwing is probably pick of the bunch. Although
its none too sharp at 1:1, it was more or less frame filling - so
not so critical. |

Little Egret, Standlake Pit 60
18 July 2015
Passing by at close range in a duller spell. |
 |
Common Tern, Standlake Pit 60

July 2015
One of several about. |
 |
Green Sandpiper, Standlake Pit 60
11 July 2015
Two birds eventually appeared by the Langley
Lane hide. |

Common Tern, Standlake Pit 60

July 2015
These birds provided some entertainment and
diversion while waiting for the Green Sands. They were nesting on
an island and sometimes came quite close to the hide.
I
like this shot because of the green background which makes the
bird more prominent than in the usual shots of birds against the
sky or water. |

Along the shore in front of the hide - one of
several birds present today. |

Turtle Dove, Otmoor

May 2015
Came down to feed on the spilt grain at the
cattle pens after a short wait for me. It was remarkably
confiding but didn't sit up on any of the posts or fences while I
was there.

In mid purr! |

Black throated Diver, Farmoor

Later on in the calmer conditions on the west side
of F2 from my preferred lower camera angle.

Black throated Diver, Farmoor

This photo unfortunately apparently shows a wound
in the birds abdomen - lower right. There was definitely something
wrong with this bird, especially on its left side. |

Black throated Diver, Farmoor

May 2015
Sunnier conditions this morning but the light was
difficult from the causeway with the bird on F2. |
 |
Ringed Plover, Farmoor
16 May 2015
An unexpected bonus as I was leaving having filled a memory
card with diver pics! This bird was on the causeway parapet and
even ran towards me getting quite close before having second
thoughts!

An after work visit produced some good views of
this great bird, which unfortunately did not seem well.
This photo was taken in a brief brighter spell using my backup
400mmf5.6 lens and 7D camera, as my DO lens and 7D Mk II are
regrettably being serviced! |
 |
Dunlin, Farmoor
9 May
2015
The poor weather early on today brought in quite a few
waders, including a nice flock of summer plumaged Dunlin. |
 |
Red-necked Grebe, Farmoor
9 April
2015
With the continuing sunny weather, I couldn't resist
another after work sortie to Farmoor!
For most of the
time, this looked to be a wasted visit but just as the sun was
approaching the horizon the bird suddenly approached its favoured
southern shore. Even then it didn't come close enough, but I like
the lighting and the bird's pose on this shot. |

Red-necked Grebe, Farmoor
7 April
2015
Quite close in this evening in nice calm, sunny
conditions - so different from the heaving waters and more distant
bird of yesterday!

Ring necked Duck, Standlake Pit 60
4 April 2015
Thanks to a timely text from Badger, I
made my way promptly to Pit 60 from Stratfield Brake to find the
remarkable sight of 4 Ring-necked Ducks of which 3 were males!
Initially they were all very distant but the pair soon came a
good deal closer. |

Ring necked Duck, Standlake Pit 60

The female out of the water and clearly
un-ringed. |
 |
Garganey, Stratfield Brake
4 April
2015
A new site for me in Oxon, and a very confiding duck
at times. Shame about the barbed wire fence between the path and
the lake! |
 |
Red necked Grebe, Farmoor
26 March
2015
Nice light late afternoon but this bird wasn't nearly
as cooperative as last year when it was coming much closer.
