Oxon Bird Pics: Autumn/Winter 2022/23

  Teal, West Oxon

11 March 2023

After poor weather recently, it was nice to have at least a little sun this morning! This was a quick snap shot of an incoming bird I got onto just in time.

Unusually, this bird came reasonably close in nice light.

Appeared from nowhere just before I was leaving and also came quite close very briefly

Somewhat distant but in lovely light and still conditions, fairly early in the morning.

Captured on a short flight on a dull day.

25 January 2023

I'm currently struggling to find subjects for photography, so this Fieldfare that appeared in the garden to feed on apples in the recent cold spell was very welcome.

A difficult subject though as it was very wary and stayed as close to cover as it could.

20 December 2022

This photo only possible using the Canon R7's pre-capture facility, as it was taken about 1/4 second before I pressed the shutter button! Its also amazing how well the AF tracked the bird from its take off to leaving the frame only a fraction of a second later.

15 December 2022

It was -7 C first thing this morning but probably somewhat warmer by the time this Snipe appeared about 4 hours later! With the frozen conditions, it was showing much better than normal.

10 December 2022

I've previously had some success with winter thrushes here using the car as a hide. This bird showed nicely in the late afternoon sun for a few moments.

8 December 2022

Came nice and close in lovely light, albeit very briefly!

Looking good in the sun a with a heavy hoar frost all around! One for Christmas!

22 November 2022

Didn't take much notice of me!

  Great White Egret, West Oxon

18 November 2022

This bird was flushed by a trespasser and flew up in considerable alarm. The sky was an interesting mixture of blue and dark clouds with the bird in full sun. Unfortunately the bird was looking away in the entire sequence.

16 November 2022

I got lucky when this female perched briefly quite close t0 me.

12 November 2022

These birds were very active at one point. Here are two of them having a bit of a barney, unfortunately at some distance!

A relatively close fly past. Doesn't happen often!

2 November 2022

Just as the first rays of the sun were striking the bird and before they had reached the shoreline behind.

27 October 2022

Managed to get close to this bird using the car as hide. I think a silent re-chargeable hybrid helps with this!

Another shot of the confiding Little Egret on a dull day.

25 October 2022

Some more early morning light. These two came together briefly although at some distance.

20 October 2022

Another site for a change, where I can use the car as a photo hide. The Little Egret here seems very confiding.

18 October 2022

Another very still morning but this time it was very misty. However it is amazing what can be done with PhotoShop!

11 October 2022

A lovely still morning with great light as the early mist lifted. Its not often the water is smooth enough for an almost perfect reflection like this one!

  Black-headed Gull, West Oxon

8 October 2022

These gulls kept flying past and provided good target practice for my new toy - a Canon EOS R7!

8 October 2022

Anothe quite distant photo but the early morning light was great again.

  Marsh Harrier, West Oxon

1 October 2022

A rather distant photo, but the light was wonderful for a change this morning and the subject photogenic! I'm still waiting for a close harrier photo in this country.

While this bird was bathing it suddenly jumped into the air and then came quickly back down.

The adult male again and in a better position on the perch, but in poorer light.

Some reasonable light and a new perch! An adult male, which makes three different birds recently here.
