Siberian Chiffchaff, Abingdon
Sewage Works.
14 February 2015
Rotten light today
but I managed to get some shots of
the tristis sub-species of Chiffchaff, in amongst several ordinary
ones.

A slightly sharper
image than above but with more twigs around, making for a less pleasing composition. |

Linnet, Otmoor
7 February 2015
There is currently a large by very wary Linnet flock coming to
seed scattered around the hide. By sitting in the hide and
waiting, a few eventually came close enough for pics. Although
this wasn't the closest it had the best pose.

Bullfinch, Otmoor
7 February 2015
The cold weather is making these birds very confiding beside
the track past the car park field, but that doesn't make them easy
to photograph!
They seem to spend nearly all their time in
the middle of the bushes only rarely coming out into the open. The
light was awful again today, so this shot is very much of a
silhouette.

Long Tailed Duck, Pit 60 Standlake
31 January 2015
Ultimate record shot of a very distant
and un-obliging duck which spent virtually all its time
underwater.
I hoped it would come closer but instead it
vanished completely! |

Teal, Shellingford Pit
17 January
2015
My first presentable shot with my new toy - an EOS 7D
Mk II!! No idea if its fancy new AF system helped with this one or
not. Possibly it did, but this a very cropped image. |

Fieldfare, Harwell
13 December
2014
I was fortunate to find a cotoneaster bush full of
berries somewhere were I could drive right up to it. So I spent
some time trying to get winter thrush pics, preferably with
berries in the bills as well.
It wasn't easy to get clean
shots, and of the 800+ I took, only these 3 are worth keeping!
This one probably has the best lighting and sharpness, but no
berry!

Fieldfare, Harwell
13 December
2014
See above. Nice pose, but the bird was largely in
partial shade but it does have a berry! |
 |
Redwing, Harwell
13 December
2014
It was pretty dull out of the sun but this was the
best Redwing pic. |
 |
Corn Bunting, Downs
6 December
2014
This was the second bird in DLSR range of the car that
I came across - see below. |
 |
Kestrel, Downs
6 December 2014
Went for an early morning drive in the glorious sunny conditions
to see if I could find anything within camera range. This nice
Kestrel was the first I came across. |

Red Necked Grebe, Farmoor
25
October 2014
Finally managed to connect with this long
staying bird after several attempts - along the western shore of
F1. The light was difficult though -it would have been better in
the afternoon.

Red Necked Grebe, Farmoor

October 2014
Another pic of this nice bird close in on the
western edge of F1.
Note it has a pale spot just above its
left eye. I'm not sure what it could be.

Little Grebe, Farmoor
18 October 2014
Having failed to find the Red-necked
Grebe again, the sun suddenly made a weak appearance and improved
the lighting on this Little Grebe, so it seemed worth a quick shot
from the perimeter road, as the bird was fairly close in.

Grey Wagtail, Letcombe Bassett
21
September
I spent some time trying for shots of this bird
and just as I was almost about to go it suddenly landed on this
post, not too far away.
It would however have been better
if it had landed on the nearer of the two available posts! |
 |
Little Stint, Farmoor
6 September 2014
Very tame as usual for this species.
This bird eventually paused from its frenetic feeding for a rest
and a preen, which allowed this shot to be taken.

Black tailed Godwit, Farmoor

The long staying and remarkably tame bird.
