Pompadour Cotinga

From the tower, Cristalino Jungle Lodge, Amazon, Brazil. April 2004

Pompadour Cotingas spend their time high in the canopy of the Amazonian rain forest, and are hence difficult to see well from ground level. The splendid 50m tower at the Cristalino Jungle Lodge in Brazil affords great opportunities for good views and photography. There is also a full report for this trip elsewhere on my website.

This shot was taken with a now obsolete 3MP digital camera, attached to a telescope. Despite this, I am unaware of a better photo of this species taken in the wild, on the web at least.
