Migrant Hawker, Shellingford Pit, Oxon.
29 August 2016
This is a crop of the image below,
showing a good level of sharpness with my new EF 100-400 II Canon
zoom lens. |

Migrant Hawker, Shellingford Pit, Oxon.
29 August 2016
Good to see fair numbers of this species
at this site, despite the continuing decline in the already very
low water level. |
 |
Common Darter, Shellingford Pit, Oxon.
29 August 2016
Resting on a convenient stem. |
 |
Small Red eyed Damselfly, Shellingford Pit,
Oxon
6 August 2016
Very good to find this species,
which is a specialty of this site, for the eleventh year in a row.
This photo was not easy to secure and may have been
considerably more trouble than it was worth. |
 |
Emperor, Tar Lakes, nr Witney, Oxon.
6 August 2016
At least two females were present today - the
other one was at the opposite end of the lake and very battered. |

Southern Migrant Hawker, Wat Tyler CP,
Essex
31 July 2016
A return visit following our
previous trip here in August 2015. This time we managed to connect
with adult males. |

Essex
31 July 2016
Flight shots were difficult - they
weren't hovering as well as in previous years apparently. |

31 July 2016
Another flight shot - this time
against the sky which made auto focus much easier at the expense
of poorer lighting. |

Essex
31 July 2016
A presumably copulating pair -
although the female looks very similar to the male. |

Brilliant Emerald, Esher Common, Surrey
19 July 2016
In the small bay in the south west corner
of Black Pond. Not easy though!

Black Darter, Esher Common, Surrey
19 July 2016
On a small pool to the east of Black Pond. Very warm out in the
sun today! |

19 July 2016
A female near to the same small pool as the male above. |
 |
Emperor, Shellingford Pit, Oxon
16 July 2016
Assisted by a wind that was slowly it down briefly! |
 |
Small Red Damselfly, Cothill Fen, Oxon
16 July 2016
This shot took a fair amount of patience to secure - it wasn't
easy to get one of these tiny damsels in a location without too
much background clutter, especially in the windy conditions today.

Keeled Skimmer, Cothill Fen, Oxon
16 July 2016
At last some warmish conditions and even a bit of sun! |
 |
Golden Ringed Dragonfly, Threestoneburn, Cheviots,
Northumberland
8 July 2016
We came across this
splendid dragonfly when out on a longish walk in the Cheviots. The
conditions at the time were cool and overcast and I could get
right up close with the Song RX100 on its widest angle setting. |
 |
Azure Damselfly, Otmoor, Oxon
18 June 2016
Consuming an aphid! With the continuing mediocre weather only
Azures and the odd darter sp were showing today.

Large Red Damselfly, Otmoor, Oxon
11 June 2016
I
liked the the water droplets on this leaf which make for a
somewhat different photo of this common species. |

Downy Emerald, Barton Pool, nr Abingdon, Oxon
28 May
2016
This individual was moving too fast for me to take
flight shots of it, but most surprisingly it briefly settled right
beside me just once!

Banded Demoiselle, Goring Railway Bridge, Oxon
28 May
2016
Just one Club-tail exuvia under the bridge today but
no sign of anything alive!
Nearby there were a good number
of Banded Demoiselles though. |

Large Red Damselfly, Little Whittenham, Oxon
8 May 2016
Taken at the end of an abortive walk looking for the Golden
Oriole which was only heard at dawn I later learnt!
The
conditions for this shot were far from ideal with considerable
wind movement. |
